Experienced travelers will be interested in conquering Pip-Ivan, Hoverla, Petros. But if you are a beginner and have never been in the mountains, you can choose a simpler route and a mountain that is not difficult to climb. After all, the only mountains that can be better than mountains are those that you have not been to yet...

Features of hiking in the Carpathians

Rapid waterfalls, extensive mountain ranges, ancient spruce forests, picturesque peaks and green valleys - hiking in the Carpathians will give you incredible sensations and emotions. Overnight in a tent, delicious spring water, food cooked on a bonfire - all this helps to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, to forget about problems and everyday affairs.

Mountain relief of the Carpathians

The Carpathians are known for their mountain beauty. During the hike, you can enjoy views of mountain ranges, valleys, waterfalls and mountain rivers. The mountainous terrain of the Carpathians is quite diverse, consisting of ridges, passes and valleys. The mountains are of medium height, mostly 1,000 - 1,500 m. But there are peaks that rise above 2,000 m. These are young mountains in terms of age, but from the outside they are very similar to old mountains with rounded peaks and gentle slopes. And the wide Carpathian ridges have soft contours and are sometimes cut by deep transverse valleys with steep slopes. They were formed as a result of various tectonic processes and were deepened by rivers.

Climatic conditions

The weather in the Carpathians is very unpredictable and a bit capricious. Even in June, it can snow in the mountains. When preparing for a hike, you should read the weather forecast and choose the right clothes. After all, even if the forecast promises sunny weather and no precipitation, you should take a raincoat and comfortable shoes with you. In the mountains, the weather can change very quickly, a cloud can literally cover you before your eyes. At night in the mountains, the temperature sometimes drops below zero (sometimes even in summer). In addition, it is easy to get sunburned during the climb to the top, so you should bring sunscreen.

The season of hiking in the Carpathians starts at the end of April and ends in October (but everything depends on weather conditions). Winter hikes in the Carpathians are no less bright and exciting. But they are more difficult due to low temperatures and precipitation.

Experienced travelers claim that the best time for hiking in the Carpathians is early autumn, late spring or early summer. But you can conquer the peaks at any time. Main wish!

Biodiversity of the Carpathians

The nature of the Carpathians is very diverse: there are more than 2000 species of plants, hundreds of species of birds and animals. There are relict plants preserved from other geological eras: Polish larch, Cossack juniper, European cedar, berry yew. During the hike, you can see endemic species that grow only in this area. These are narrow-leaved narcissus, East Carpathian rhododendron, Filyarsky honeysuckle - in total, more than 240 species. Several large protected areas have been created for their protection. There are many medicinal herbs - about 300 species. Many of them are used in medicine. The fauna of the Carpathians is no less diverse than the flora. About 80 species of mammals live in the mountains.

Look for places to cross where the water is not so deep. Watch for surface features such as current speed, rocks or trees that may indicate potential hazards.

Gastronomic discoveries

Brynza, banosh, bograch - these are far from all the dishes known in the Carpathian region.
Carpathian cuisine is unique because it reflects the cultural and geographical features of the region. The Carpathians are rich in a variety of local products, such as mushrooms, berries, herbs, nuts and cheeses. Carpathian cuisine uses these local ingredients to create dishes with rich flavor and authentic flavor combinations. It is difficult to overestimate the influence of neighboring cultures on the formation of cuisine. The Western Carpathians border Poland and Slovakia, and the Eastern Carpathians cross Ukraine and Romania. Traditional Carpathian cuisine combines Polish, Slovak, Ukrainian and Romanian cuisines into Carpathian dishes.

  • Failure to follow the guide's instructions. Improper use of equipment, improper nutrition, incorrect assessment of potential risks can have unpleasant consequences.

Respect local flora and fauna. Do not harm or chase wild animals. During the journey, do not pluck rare flowers and herbs, especially those listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.

Minimizing the impact on the environment

During a hike in the mountains, you must not leave trash in the mountains. After all, it can negatively affect natural ecosystems, in particular pollute water sources. In addition, garbage in the mountains can become a danger for tourists and local residents. Sharp or dangerous objects can injure people or animals, even cause fires or other dangerous situations.

After all, garbage in the mountains is unaesthetic. Tourists who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains will be unpleasantly impressed by the garbage left and the smell due to this.
