List of things for a summer trip to the Carpathians
Hiking in the mountains is very different from an ordinary walk. Here you need to be ready for everything: for rain, for sun, and for force majeure situations. But in an attempt to predict everything at once, beginners sometimes take a lot of extra things with them on the trip. And an excessively heavy backpack will definitely not make your vacation in the Carpathians more pleasant.
What should you definitely take on a trip?
Tent
On a long hike, you can't do without an overnight stay. Experienced tourists do not advise taking old tarpaulin or single-layer tents that are offered in supermarkets. Wind and rain are not rare in the Carpathians, and the tent must withstand these cataclysms. It is better to buy an option with metal arcs.
shoulder pad
The optimal volume of a shoulder bag is 80 liters for men and 60 for women. Naturally, it should be comfortable, have wide straps, ideally - an orthopedic back and a rubberized bottom. It is desirable to have a waterproof cover for a shoulder bag.
Sleeper
For a summer vacation in the Carpathians, you need a sleeping bag with a comfortable temperature of about 0 degrees. Nights in the mountains are quite cold even at this time of year, and it is better to warm up with a reserve. It is also desirable to have a hermetic cover for the sleeping bag.
Car seat and seat
This, again, is a matter of weather. Sitting on bare ground or cold stones after a heavy rain is a bad idea. Such a halt will end with a cold at best, and more serious consequences at worst.
Telescopic sticks
This point can be called optional, but desirable, especially for beginners. Trekking poles are similar to skis, in the mountains they help take some of the load off the legs. Therefore, people suffering from joint diseases cannot go to the mountains without these sticks.
Raincoat
Of course, no one takes an umbrella on a hike. But you have to hide from the rain. The choice of raincoats is now quite large: starting from the simplest polyethylene raincoats and ending with a raincoat-poncho. There are other options for protection from the rain, such as clothing made of special membrane fabric, but they are quite expensive.
Footwear
During the hike, the ground under your feet will change to dense thickets, rocky scree and swampy mud. Therefore, the requirements for shoes are extremely high. Light trekking boots are considered the best option for hiking. In extreme cases, sneakers with thick soles are also suitable. To move around the camp, take slippers or sandals.
Clothes
An ideal hiking wardrobe includes: light sweatpants, shorts, 2-3 t-shirts, a change of underwear, sleepwear, a warm jacket, gloves, a windbreaker, a hat to protect against the sun, and socks. As for the latter, it is better to have ordinary changeable socks for every day and woolen ones for sleeping. Waterproof membrane socks are particularly popular now. They will keep your feet dry even in the most extreme conditions.
A set of dishes
You will need the most basic things: a bowl, a mug, a fork, a spoon and a knife. The dishes should be light and capacious. Options made of materials such as glass or ceramics are not suitable. A plastic water bottle, which should always be at hand, is included in the same item.
Personal hygiene products
You should not take a large tube of toothpaste or a large soap with you. All this is sold in a mini format, especially for hiking. So you will save 1 place in the backpack and significantly reduce its weight. Do not forget toilet paper and wet wipes, you will definitely need them.
First aid kit
You can buy a ready-made first aid kit or assemble it yourself. What to put in it? Be sure to take a bandage, cotton wool, adhesive plaster, hydrogen peroxide, antiseptics, antipyretics, painkillers, cold medicine, heart drops, activated charcoal. If you need specific medications due to your health condition, do not forget to take them.
Mosquito repellent and sunscreen
These things are not on the must-have list. Some can do without them. But if you have a little space left in your backpack, we advise you to take mosquito repellent. Most likely, after a few days of the campaign, less prudent companions will begin to humbly ask you for it.
Mobile phone, passport, money
You can't do without these things on a trip, so we included them in our list. Valuables are recommended to be stored in a waterproof case.
