Tourist routes in Transcarpathia
We have selected for you the most interesting routes for beginners that are worth visiting, based in Vojvodina.
1. Lake Synevyr – the pearl of the Carpathians
The largest and most picturesque mountain lake in Ukraine. It is called the Sea Eye of the Carpathians for its unusual shape, crystal clear blue water and a small island in the middle that resembles the pupil of the eye. According to legend, the lake was formed from the tears of the beautiful Sin, who mourned her beloved shepherd Vyr.
The distance from Vojvodino is approximately 130 - 150 km, the road will take 1.5-2 hours.
In terms of difficulty, these are easy routes in the Carpathians, suitable for all age groups.
What awaits you:
- the lake itself with incredible views and crystal clear water. But remember that swimming in the lake is prohibited;
- sculpture “Son and Vyr” near the lake;
- you can visit the brown bear rehabilitation center nearby;
- souvenir shops with local products.
Practical advice from Vojvodino – leave in the morning (8-9 am) to avoid the crowds of tourists. Spend 2-3 hours at the lake – walk around, take photos, maybe have a picnic. Return to Vojvodino for the evening.
Visiting Synevyr is interesting at any time of year, but the autumn landscapes are especially impressive, when the nature around the lake takes on a special calm beauty.
2. Shypit Waterfall – the highest waterfall in Transcarpathia
The waterfall consists of five cascades with a total height of about 14 meters and is a popular tourist attraction located among a dense forest near the village of Pylypets, Mizhhirya district, on the northern slopes of the Borzhava valley, at the foot of Mount Gemba. It is especially impressive and full of water in spring, when the snow melts, and in autumn, when the forest is covered in golden colors.
The distance from Voyevodyno is 96 km. The drive by car will take about 1 hour and 50 minutes to the village of Pylypets, and then you need to walk along a comfortable path for about 6 km.
It is considered an easy route in terms of difficulty.
What you will see:
- the most voluminous and loudest waterfall with clean mountain water;
- forest trails and picturesque views;
- An annual informal festival is held here from July 1 to 7, bringing together hippies, musicians, and other subcultures. The festival began in 1993.
Tips from Vojvodina – departure in the morning, 1-1.5 hours at the waterfall (walking, photos), return for lunch. If desired, you can combine it with a visit to the thermal pools in Kosovo or Beregovo on the way back, but it will take much more time. So think through the route.
3. Climbing Mount Makovytsia
This is one of the most beautiful mountains in Transcarpathia, located near Voyevodyno. One of our hotels is named after it. Hiking to Mount Makovytsia is available in our specially designed tourist routes from Voyevodyno. Mount Makovytsia is located in the central part of the Volcanic Range, on the border of the Perechyn and Uzhhorod districts of Transcarpathia. It has a height of 978 m with steep northern and northwestern slopes and gentler southern slopes.
The distance from Voyevodyno is approximately 30 km (30-40 minutes by car). If you follow our tourist route, starting from Voyevodyno - Shenborn Park - Ivaniv Forest - Svinarky - Pohar - Voyevodyno - Makowytsia, you will cover approximately 15 km, spending 6 hours.
Such hiking routes in the Carpathians are of medium difficulty and require some physical fitness and are ideal for those who want to hike but don't want to go far.
4. Borzhava Meadow – a space where time stands still
Borzhava meadow is one of the largest meadows in the Carpathians. The mountain massif of the Polonynskyi ridge stretches through the Mukachevo and Khust districts of Transcarpathia. It is the longest meadow in Transcarpathia, known for its spacious treeless peaks, ideal for hiking and recreation. It begins at the Voskresenskyi Verkh and Temnatyk mountains, and ends at Mount Kuk.
The lower slopes of Borzhava are covered with unique beech forests, which are among the largest in Europe. Above the forests, on the slopes of the valley, large bushes of blueberries and lingonberries grow, which attract tourists in July-September.
The distance from Voyevodyno resort to Borzhava Valley is approximately 77–109 km, depending on which part of Borzhava Valley you plan to visit. Travel time by car takes approximately 2 hours.
The routes on Borzhava are suitable for both experienced tourists and beginners. Thanks to the cable car from Pylypets, you can easily reach the ridge and walk along the relatively flat sections of the ridge.
This is a route for those who love space and silence.
5. Nevytsky Castle – a breathing history
The 13th-century medieval castle is a dilapidated fortress located on a hill above the Uzh River valley, near the village of Kamianytsia, Transcarpathian region. It is an architectural monument of national importance, one of the oldest castles in Transcarpathia, with a rich and dramatic history.
The castle is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its mysterious atmosphere, legends, and picturesque views.
The distance from Voyevodyno is 40-50 km, 1 hour by car.
You can combine the trip with a visit to Uzhhorod (just 12 km from the castle) - take a walk through the center, have a coffee in one of the many pastry shops, and enjoy the views and cozy streets of the ancient city.
6. Kosino and Beregovo thermal pools – relaxation after hiking
The thermal waters of Transcarpathia are famous for their healing properties. The pools in Kosino and Berehove are popular places for health improvement and relaxation.
The distance from the resort of Voyevodyno to the city of Berehove is approximately 95 km by road. You can get there by car in less than an hour and a half.
This route is not a hike, but a rest. The ideal option after an active day in the mountains is to allocate a separate day of rest for yourself with the opportunity to swim in outdoor pools with hot thermal water.
You can go at any time of the year. But in winter it is especially colorful to swim in hot water, when there is snow and frost all around.

- do not go on unfamiliar hiking routes in the Carpathians alone, especially difficult ones;

- follow only marked trails.
The best strategy is to alternate active days with rest days. Hiking day → SPA day and easy walks → one-day routes through the Carpathians again. This way you won’t get too tired and will get maximum pleasure.
