8 Transcarpathian dishes that everyone should try

There is no better way to get to know a country or even a small region than to taste them. For example, France has a taste for exquisite cheeses, India for bright spices, Japan for fresh seafood. And what does the native Transcarpathia taste like?

There are dozens of unique dishes that are prepared mainly on the other side Carpathian mountains. And they all have one thing in common – they are so delicious that you just have to try them!

Bograch

This is a business card Transcarpathia and the unchanging leader of all gastronomic ratings. To visit here and not try bograch is a real crime! This amazing dish is prepared from meat (beef, pork or lamb) with the addition of onions, carrots, potatoes and various seasonings. Sometimes bograch is served in fragrant bread, which gives it even more flavor.

Banosh

In terms of popularity, this dish seriously competes with bograch among tourists and local residents. How can you not be delighted with corn porridge cooked on fatty farm cream, with the addition of cheese, crackers and fried onions.

Mushroom soup

Having tried it once, you will never forget the taste of this dish. The whole secret lies in the main ingredient of the soup – porcini mushrooms. Soup cooked from a local delicacy has a special taste that cannot be repeated. Apparently, even for the sake of this soup alone, it is worth covering tens, hundreds of kilometers and coming to Transcarpathia for vacation.

Lecho

Those who do not eat meat also have something to try in Transcarpathia! One of these dishes is lecho. The main ingredients for the dish are quite democratic - sweet pepper, onion, tomatoes, eggs and sour cream can also be added. Actually, every housewife has her own lecho recipe. You will definitely like one of them!

Rokot-potatoes

Translated from Hungarian, this difficult name translates as "potato baked in layers". For this dish, potatoes are first boiled "in their skins", and then baked together with boiled eggs, sausage, sour cream, grated cheese and greens. From the name, it is easy to guess that the ingredients are laid out in layers. By the way, the taste of the dish is finger-licking!

Broken shoulder blades

You will be surprised, but this dish does not even smell like meat, and the shoulder blades are nothing but asparagus beans. And they “top up” it with kefir or sour cream. It also includes potatoes, paprika and many other seasonings. You can also add smoked meats, then the dish will still be meaty.

Cream puffs

There are many names for this dish - "deruny", "kakorki", "tertyukhy"... However, the Transcarpathian version of ordinary potato fritters has one unique feature - a filling of local porcini mushrooms. And what are they like after that?

Gombo people

Of course, you can't do without dessert. Well, for those who count calories, there is good news - the dish is steamed, so it won't affect your figure. In essence, gombovtsi are balls of yeast dough with various, mostly fruit, fillings. They are served with sour cream, chocolate or berry sauces.

We invite you to taste these and other traditional dishes in one of the restaurants of our resort - "Voevodyno", "Kolyba" and "Holodna Forel".
